Mercedes battery replacement - why does the dealer make it sound like rocket science?

My 2016 Mercedes E-Class has been warning me for about two weeks that the battery was low, first the stop/start stopped working, then the dashboard lit up like a Christmas tree with warnings about every system. I called the dealer and they said I absolutely had to bring the car in because Mercedes batteries need to be "coded" and "registered" and if I just swapped it myself I could fry the alternator or cause electrical gremlins. They quoted me 1600 dirhams which seems insane for a battery. A guy at work who drives a C-Class said he used a mobile battery service that came to his office parking, swapped the battery in 20 minutes, and coded everything correctly for half the price. I'm specifically wondering if they can properly code the battery type (AGM versus flooded) and update the serial number in the car's computer so the charging system works correctly. Also curious if they reset the battery counter or whatever Mercedes calls it. I don't want to be cheap and then end up with warning lights that won't go away. But I also don't want to pay the dealer a fortune for something that seems straightforward. Any experiences from other Mercedes owners would really help me decide. Thanks in advance.
